They treat girls differently, dont they? By: Timothy Harper
Timothy harper a journalist and author talks about, how boys get more attention in the classroom than girls. Are teachers to blame? A study done by American Association of University Woman say that 4 out of 5 times, a teacher will call on a boy. Critics say teachers aren't to be blamed, they don't even realize that their doing this. Critics warn that classroom gender bias, hurts the girls the most. Girls feel more insecure and that they have low self esteem. Boys on the other hand, receive more confidence and higher esteem. Diane Ravitch, former assistant secretary of the U.S Department of Education, claims that in the 1970 woman accounted for 40 percent, now its at 55 percent and going up. That doesn't mean teachers are biased. Either way guys and girls think differently and teachers just might just need to wait a minute or two before calling on a student to answer.
